I’m not watching youtube quite often, but as we can literally learn almost anything out of youtube, sharing favorite youtube channels is pretty cool. And of course, I’m not talking about some very popular youtube channels like TED, TED-Ed, Kurzgesagt, CrashCourse, … nor music, gaming stuff.
Ok, here is the list:
1. TRUE FOOD TV
Agriculture is always an interesting topic, this channel explains how crops grow, like strawberry, avocado, cucumber, … It also has some videos about how to grow food on your own. Most of the videos are about agriculture in the US, it’s very pleasing to watch but not quite useful in Vietnam’s climate, I guess.
2. thebrainscoop
This channel is about archeology, taxidermy, fossils, and stuff. It’s discontinued but they’ve made a lot of videos already, very interesting and fun. I have to admit that the main reason that keeps me watching their videos is because of the video host - Emily Graslie is very cute and smart =)). She has started new channel for her own btw.
3. 3Blue1Brown
Very great explanation about physics, great visual animation, graphs, and formulas. Python graphics library is open-sourced here https://github.com/3b1b/manim
4. CNBC
Among tons of US media networks with different points of view out there, CNBC seems fine to me. It’s not too biased when it comes to politics (unlike CNN or Fox News, ..), it also has many insight analyses over businesses and contemporary US issues. I found CNBC’s articles very provocative and enjoyable to read (for example The ‘Quad’ is on the rise in Asia-Pacific: Game theory has a prediction about its future)
Also, with the decrease of impartiality and neutrality in media and journalism, it’s important to stay open-minded, diversify the sources of information, and stay out of extreme politics. Maybe I will write some more about my experience on this topic in future posts.
5. TheMunkDebates
I like debating. More precisely, I like watching people debate on controversial topics, it’s a good way to fuck my mind with different views on the same problem.
This TheMunkDebates channel usually invites some famous leading thinkers on particular subjects and debates back and forth, kinda worth listening. Also, while we’re talking about debating, let’s watch ERB
6. Economics Explained
As the name suggested, this channel explain and analyze policies, decisions of countries in term of economics. pretty interesting.
7. Seeker
It talks about cutting-edge science and technology in simple terms and how that matters to us. Their videos are well-made and friendly, usually very short but very very informative, videos host seems to be very enthusiastic and know a lot about the topics as well.
8. Talks at Google
Google invites top influencers, thinkers, makers, bla bla in Google and talks about their stories. It’s somewhat like TED talks but in interview format, it’s more interactive
9. MIT OpenCourseWare
Learn MIT courses for free, we can literally replace all college class courses with this one (plus Coursera, edx, …). I wish I know this channel in my early day of college, it’d made my life much easier.
10. Veritasium
I can’t let myself finish this page without mentioning this channel, Vertisasim is the most interesting, well-known channel about science with a lot of fascinating topics, experiments, cool demos, … Derek Muller, the host sounds very friendly, just feel pretty good to watch his videos.
I know there are much much more, tons of great youtube channels/videos out there waiting for us to discover, but we have so little time, so if you have any interesting channels to share, please leave a comment below :)
~~ Stay cool, stay curious ~~
